Viking Festival

Starting the last saturday of april every year

Viking trade

We have a strong education component to many of the things we do.  Toward that end, we “trade” with children.  Participating vendors may ask children if they would like to trade or children can ask the vendors.  Trade items are small and safe, a rock, leaf or twig.  Some trade for a joke or a smile, or a small task. Small trinkets are acceptable.  We are attempting to have children get used to the idea of trade that does not always involve money as in former times and to interact with people by using their words.

Look for the symbol below to see if a vendor or reenactor is participating in the trade fun.

Saxon Market

Our market features amazing craftsmen and  among other things you'll find Viking themed products, wood carvings, amazing textiles, leather products, furs, authors, henna, books, pewter, and facepainting.

Vendors

Our family friendly vendors go through a jury process before we bring them to you. We carefully select vendors with high quality products that fit our festival. These are products we, the organizers, would want to own, and we think you will, too. We have something for all ages, from gigantic bubble kits, textiles, beautiful amber jewelry, and books.

We welcome authors and exhibitors, too. Are you of Nowegian descent? Learn about your heritage from the Sons of Norway. Love fantasy or historical novels? Check out our visiting authors.

Ashville Food Pantry

The Ashville Food Pantry provides food, free of charge, to those in need who live in the Teays Valley Local School District. Donations are always welcomed. They average 100 clients per month with the largest group over 65. Also, they are in need of funds to maintain their facility and keep their programs running strong.
The Food Pantry is located at 94 Long Street.

Youth Activities

Learn to throw axes at a target, explore a child-sized tent, get your face painted, learn to play Viking games, trade with the vendors, be part of a shield wall, and so much more.

Get the Good Stuff

Two sit-down locations plus a variety of food booths & trucks provide an assortment of festival food choices. Favorite treats include homemade root beer, kettle corn, and freshly churned ice cream.

Daring Feats of Wonder

Beautiful belly dancers, a full contact armored joust plus a squire's challenge, juggling, fire breathing, musical acts, hands-on pike training, magic, and birds of prey are some of the many activities you can enjoy.

There's always something happening in the lanes and on our stages.

Not Just Vikings

From the legions of ancient Rome to the colorful mercenaries of the Holy Roman Empire and beyond, history awaits. Our reenactors look forward to explaining life throughout the ages.

Visit our Grove of Heroes and learn how weapons developed and what maneuvers carry forward to today's soldiers.

Discover what foods were eaten, how medicine and clothes developed, and what people did for fun.
